The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is seeking a motivated undergraduate to fill a seasonal summer position at Silver Lake Public Fishing Area in Bainbridge, GA. Silver Lake PFA staff manage over 500 acres of public water with the goal of providing a quality angling experience to visitors. The PFA is comprised of over 30 small natural ponds and a 250 acre lake.
The Intern will be assisting PFA staff. Job duties will include but are no limited to: assisting with boat electrofishing surveys, performing creel surveys, constructing and placing fish attractors, filling fish feeders, applying aquatic herbicide, conducting routine water chemistry analysis, applying fertilizer to ponds, assisting with ag lime applications, assisting with aquatic vegetation removal, grounds maintenance, and any other task assigned by PFA staff. The Intern will work 40 hours per week. Applicants must be able to tolerate a variety of inclement field conditions including extremely hot weather, biting insects, and encounters with dangerous wildlife(alligators and venomous snakes).
Must be an undergraduate at an accredited college or university working towards a Bachelors degree in fisheries management, aquatic ecology or closely related field.
Must possess a drivers license valid through August 2022
Must be able to pass a background check
Must be able to routinely lift 50 pounds
