Deadline: Fri, 03/01/2024 - 12:00pm Employer: Georgia Department of Natural Resources Job Field: Fisheries Job Type: Seasonal, Temporary, Internship Location: Georgia Location Detail: Bainbridge, Georgia Job Description: The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is seeking two motivated undergraduate students to fill seasonal positions in Fisheries Management Region 5 in southwest Georgia. This part of Georgia is home to of hundreds of miles rivers and creeks as well as several of the largest reservoirs in the state. The interns will be housed at Silver Lake Public Fishing Area in Bainbridge, GA. Silver Lake PFA staff manage over 500 acres of public water with the goal of providing a quality angling experience to visitors. The intern will be assisting regional fisheries management staff. Job duties will include but are not limited to: assisting with boat electrofishing surveys, performing creel surveys, extracting otoliths, harvesting hatchery ponds, hauling and stocking fish, constructing and placing fish attractors, filling fish feeders, applying aquatic herbicide, conducting routine water chemistry analysis, applying fertilizer to ponds, assisting with ag lime applications, assisting with aquatic vegetation removal, grounds maintenance, data entry and any other task assigned by regional fisheries management staff. Applicants must be able to tolerate a variety of inclement field conditions including extremely hot weather, biting insects, and encounters with dangerous wildlife (alligators and venomous snakes). Qualifications: Must be an undergraduate student at an accredited university pursuing a degree in fisheries management, aquaculture, aquatic ecology, or closely related field.
