The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking to fill a Fisheries Resource Supervisor vacancy in Augusta.

 

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is engaged in professional services and scientific work of a supervisory nature involving the conservation and management of inland fisheries, including the protection, preservation, and enhancement of Maine’s inland fisheries resources. The Fisheries Planner and Research Coordinator works at the main headquarters of MDIFW and serves as a member of the Fisheries Statewide Support Team. The position currently supervises one full time Fisheries Senior Resource Biologist and reports to the Director of Fisheries and Hatcheries.

 

The Fisheries Planner and Research Coordinator will:

 

- Plan, coordinate, and implement statewide strategic planning.

- Coordinate on statewide research initiatives, however this is not a research position.

- Manage special projects from conception to completion.

- Compile, analyze, and report on statewide fisheries data.

- Develop and comply with grant/project reporting requirements.

- Chair and facilitate committee meetings and stakeholder work groups.

- Work collaboratively with and provide program support to staff within the Division of Fisheries and Hatcheries.

 

The scope of work is broad with varying levels of complexity. Work is performed under limited supervision and in accordance with the requirements established by senior management. Statewide travel among the seven Regional Management Headquarters is expected.

 

(* The salary range listed is earning potential over the course of eight step increases based on annual performance reviews. New hires start at Step 1.)

 

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree in Biology, Fisheries or Wildlife Management, or related field -AND- two (2) years of progressively responsible related laboratory or field research and/or management experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

 

Preference will be given to candidates that successful demonstrate:

 

- Strong interpersonal skills and leadership qualities, including experience communicating orally and in writing to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

- Strong commitment to work respectfully and collaboratively as part of a team dedicated to responsible management of Maine’s inland fisheries.

- Ability to chair and facilitate committee meetings and stakeholder work groups.

- Understanding and application of statistical and research practices to coordinate and facilitate research needs typically conducted by partners and provide constructive input on project design and research reports.

- Ability to work semi-independently on multiple projects, while maintaining a level of engagement that ensures an outcome will meet expectations and program needs.

- Open mindedness and a willingness to learn and be mentored.

- Experience with freshwater fisheries data collection practices using various freshwater fish sampling equipment.

- Ability to serve as the agency’s resource by advising, conferring, and consulting with a variety of external partners and stakeholders.

- Ability to develop, align, and evaluate work plans consistent with various agency plans to ensure long-range objectives and strategies are met.

- Experience managing and coordinating freshwater fisheries databases.

- Ability to oversee, supervise, evaluate, and manage work performance of assigned personnel.

Salary:
$63,273.60 - $86,028.80*
