Deadline: Fri, 05/05/2023 - 12:00pm Employer: Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources Job Field: Fisheries Wildlife Job Type: Full Time Location: Georgia Location Detail: Social Circle, GA Job Description: As part of the Freshwater Biodiversity Program, the Fisheries Technician 3 will contribute to the conservation of crayfishes, fishes, and mollusks across the state. This position will support program biologists by contributing to the development and implementation of scientific sampling protocols. The Fisheries Technician 3 will support research, surveys, and conservation projects aimed at protecting, assessing, improving, and monitoring populations of rare and endangered aquatic species and their habitats in Georgia. Survey methods will include snorkeling, SCUBA, seining, electrofishing, PIT tag antenna systems, and environmental DNA. Under limited supervision, the Fisheries Technician 3 will oversee the duties and tasks associated with operating and maintaining assigned equipment, boats, facilities and vehicles and the curation of collections/samples. They will research and purchase supplies, materials and equipment in accordance with state purchasing procedures. They will provide technical support and outreach to individuals, conservation partners, and assist other DNR staff as needed. The Fisheries Technician 3 will supervise other technicians and field crews. This position will require periodic travel to project areas in remote regions of the state. Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Management or a related field from an accredited college or university. OR Associate’s degree or equivalent coursework (90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours) in Fisheries Management or a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of experience required at the lower-level Fisheries Technician 2 (NRT061) or position equivalent. OR High school diploma or GED AND two years of experience required in the Wildlife Resources Division as a Fisheries Technician 2 (NRT061) or position equivalent. Miscellaneous: Preferred Qualifications: Preference may be given to applicants with the following: 1. Experience using and maintaining a diverse range of aquatic survey equipment including backpack and boat electrofishers. 2. Operation of nonmotorized and motorized boats on lakes and rivers. 3. Familiarity & experience surveying for aquatic species. 4. Experience managing field technicians. 5. SCUBA open water certification.
