Job Description:
  • Under limited supervision, serves as the District Technician and provide extension services to the public
  • Assists in collecting fish for contaminant analysis used to develop fish advisories for anglers
  • Supervises persons conducting angler use surveys
  • Samples fish populations for ongoing projects such as angler fishing forecasts
  • Assists with fish production at Bowens Mill Fish Hatchery
  • Assists with placing fish attractors in lakes
  • Assists with fish kill investigations
  • Assists with region R3 efforts and other educational programs and other important fisheries initiatives.
  • Manages the technical support of research surveys and public waters management projects aimed at protecting, assessing, and improving fisheries of rivers and lakes in southeast Georgia.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and purchases supplies and materials as needed. 

Work may include weekends, nights, and holidays and assisting with Department emergency response efforts.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Management or a related field from an accredited college or university.

OR

  • Associate's degree or equivalent coursework (90 quarter hours or 60 semester hours) in Fisheries Management or a related field from an accredited college or university

AND

  • One year of experience required at the lower level Fisheries Technician 2 (NRT061) or position equivalent.

OR

  • High school diploma or GED

AND

  • Two years of experience in the Wildlife Resources Division as a Fisheries Technician 2 (NRT061) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • DNR/WRD Employment Experience.
  • Completion of an Associate Degree or higher in Fisheries Management or a related field.
  • Fisheries Management experience.
