APPOINTMENT TYPE: Temporary

DURATION: January 1 to November 30, 2027 (11 month term)

WORK LOCATION: Roanoke Rapids Lake

APPLICATION DEADLINE: November 13, 2026

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission conducts surveys to collect angler effort, catch, and harvest data. This position will collect data by interviewing anglers at access areas on Roanoke Rapids Lake during assigned sessions from January through November 2027. The interview consists of asking anglers routine questions and writing down their answers or entering data into a software program. Technicians will work up to 40 hours per week (i.e., four 10-hr days including travel time). Schedules will vary weekly. Technicians will work two weekdays (i.e., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday) and two weekend days (i.e., Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) per week. The schedule may be occasionally adjusted to accommodate schedules, weather, or fishing pressure.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to communicate with the angling public and work independently in remote areas is required. Flexibility in days and hours worked is preferred, as the nature of the work requires working weekends and variable shifts during daylight hours. Knowledge of freshwater sportfish is not required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Location Detail:
The creel will take place on Roanoke Rapids Lake. The Creel Clerk may reside within a reasonable distance of Northampton or Halifax counties or Weldon, NC.
Salary:
$17.22/hour
Job Benefits:

The Creel Clerk will operate an NC state vehicle. All safety equipment and project supplies will be provided.
