Duties and Responsibilities: In the spring, employee will maintain a juvenile fish trap at the University of Idaho's Taylor Ranch Field Station, located within the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness. Access to Taylor Ranch is by charter plane, with flight costs paid by the Department. Per diem and housing is provided while on duty. Duty schedule while trapping is typically 14 days on followed by 8 to 10 days off but can vary. Weekend and holiday work is necessary. Primary responsibilities as a trap tender include (March-May): - Working the fish trap independently - Handling, identifying, and PIT tagging juvenile salmonids - Managing associated databases Primary responsibilities as an access technician (May-November): - Work to maintain and improve local fishing and boating access sites - General maintenance and repair activities for fence, signs, boat ramps, and camping areas - Assist with fishery management surveys in various water bodies throughout the region when needed (e.g., gill netting, electrofishing, conducting standard steam and lake surveys, conducting angler interviews) - Work in both front-country and back-country areas (back-country work will involve hiking and camping for several days at a time) - Work independently and as part of a cre Qualifications: It is preferred that applicants have a B.S. degree in fisheries management, ecology, or related field; or equivalent in training and experience.
