Job Description:

Position Description: Larson & McGowin (LM) is seeking a forest analyst to join our Technical Services team, which is involved in various inventory and consulting projects throughout the southeastern US and internationally. The Forest Analyst will report directly to the Forest Biometrician with primary responsibility being to assist in inventory management, growth and yield updating, and inventory/carbon analysis. This person will also work with the technical services team on geospatial and biometrics projects and support the forest management team through miscellaneous harvest schedule and valuation services.

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

 

•Provide annual growth projections using LM proprietary growth and yield system THOR®.

•Perform data upload as well as quality assurance and quality control on forest inventory information within a SQL spatial relational database.

•Provide training to forestry personnel regarding the interpretation of growth projections in management planning and field operations.

•Assist as needed with harvest scheduling and valuations.

•Assist as needed with geospatial projects including land records generation, spatial editing, and data analysis.

 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications and Abilities:

 

•Applicant should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Data Analytics, Geospatial, Forest Geomatics, Forestry, or related field.

•Working knowledge of R programing language and Microsoft Office suite of applications.

•Experience working in a database environment (Access, SQL, etc.)

•Professional level communication skills.

•Time management and prioritization skills necessary to meet requirements of concurrent projects.

 

Preferred Qualifications and Abilities:

 

•Master’s Degree in related field.

•Knowledge and experience with SQL, Python, QGIS, or ArcGIS

•Knowledge of current growth & yield research initiatives for commercial Southeast timber species

•Experience in natural resource management or forestry
