Forest Biometrician (Macon, GA)

We are seeking to fill a Forest Biometrician position located in Macon, Georgia. This person will help lead the evolution of FRC's analytical, modeling, and decision-support capabilities by combining forestry expertise with emerging technologies, data science, automation, and artificial intelligence.

In addition to supporting traditional forest inventory, growth and yield modeling, harvest scheduling, GIS analysis, and timberland valuation projects, this individual will play an important role in advancing the firm's technical capabilities and identifying new ways to deliver value to clients. The successful candidate must have a strong quantitative background, a passion for innovation, and a desire to apply forestry science, technology, and analytical thinking to solve complex forest management and investment challenges.

The position offers the opportunity to influence the future direction of FRC's technical services platform by helping develop next-generation modeling tools, improve analytical workflows, integrate emerging technologies, and enhance the firm's competitive advantage within the forestry consulting industry.
 

Job Responsibilities

  •  Participate as a member of FRC's Technical Services team in providing analytical, modeling, and technical support services to FRC managers and clients.
  • Assist in the development of next-generation modeling, forecasting, optimization, and decision-support tools that support forest management, timberland valuation, acquisition due diligence, and investment analysis.
  • Lead the development and continuous improvement of analytical tools, workflows, data systems, and technical processes to enhance efficiency, consistency, and service quality across the organization.
  • Evaluate, test, and implement emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced analytics, and forestry technologies, to improve forest inventory, modeling, planning, and decision-support capabilities.
  • Research, develop, and recommend innovative approaches to forest inventory, growth and yield modeling, harvest scheduling, resource planning, and data management.
  • Collaborate with the Technical Services team to help shape the future direction of FRC's analytical capabilities, data management systems, and technical service offerings.
  • Develop expertise in FRC's inventory processing systems, enterprise data structure, and growth and yield modeling platforms, including Remsoft Woodstock, and apply these tools to support forecasting, harvest scheduling, financial analyses, and timberland valuation projects.
  • Support FRC's field data collection systems, inventory programs, and associated data management workflows, including inventory design, processing, analysis, and reporting.
  • Generate technical reports, maps, analyses, presentations, dashboards, and other client deliverables.
  • Develop an understanding of FRC's business model and contribute to the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective services that provide value to clients.
  • Represent FRC at various southeastern Coops such as FRMC and PMRC
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Promote a positive image of FRC with clients, associates, contractors, and the general public.

Position Requirements

  • Master of Science degree in Forestry with an emphasis in biometrics, mensuration, forest modeling, or a related field.
  • Deep understanding of forest finance and economics.
  • Strong understanding of biometrics, mensuration, volume equations, quantitative analysis, and statistics.
  • Practical experience applying growth and yield models and critically evaluating results.
  • Preferred experience with southern Growth & Yield modeling (PRMC, FMRC, Fastlob, etc.)
  • Experience with Remsoft Woodstock harvest scheduling software and other forest modeling systems preferred.
  • Practical experience in forest inventory design, inventory processing, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases such as SQL Server and other data management systems.
  • Experience with or interest in programming, automation, and analytical tools such as Python, R, SQL, Power BI, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated interest in emerging technologies, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or workflow automation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally.
