Forest Carbon Analyst (Remote)

As a Forest Carbon Analyst, you will be assisting with valuation of commercial forestlands, developing long-term timber management plans, quantifying carbon potential, and estimating cash flows. This position involves working on carbon project assessments for a diverse range of clients, from land trusts to major timberland investment organizations.

A successful candidate will possess strong quantitative skills and a creative problem-solving mindset to tackle complex challenges in forest carbon development.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze forest inventory data of varying sizes, formats, and designs.
- Utilize tools such as growth and yield models (FVS), harvest scheduling, timberland appraisal, and geospatial analysis.
- Transform tree biometrics into carbon quantification following ACR and ARB protocols.
- Develop cash flows, calculate present net values, and compute internal rates of return.
- Clearly document and communicate all quantification steps to third parties.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to tight deadlines.
- Present results to clients and verification bodies.

Up to 10% travel for project site visits, meetings, or onsite verifications.

 

Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of forestry quantification experience.
- Experience with silviculture in one or more forest types in the U.S.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (R or Python preferred).
- Advanced spatial analysis skills with ArcGIS Pro.
- Knowledge of diverse forest sampling designs and statistical principles.
- Familiarity with alternative asset classes, real assets, sustainable investing, ESG investing, carbon markets, or conservation finance.
- Familiarity with the US IFM Carbon Protocols or a willingness 
- Understanding of sustainability's role in investment, climate science and policy, natural climate solutions, carbon sequestration, and timber market dynamics.
- Working knowledge of general forestry operations.
Educational Background
M.Sc. in Forestry, Mensuration, or a related field (preferred).
