Overview

We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar to join a National Science Foundation-funded research project to lead community involvement, workshop design, and data analysis related to forest futures scenario modeling in Maine, USA. The scholar will be based at the University of Georgia (location of duty station negotiable) and will collaborate with students and faculty at UGA, the University of Maine, and Harvard Forest. 

The scholar will be responsible for data collection, relationship building, workshop planning, workshop implementation, and analysis of data focused on dynamic forest scenario models for northern and western Maine. The position entails frequent travel throughout rural Maine and is best suited for someone with skills and abilities in social science, ecological science, and spatial science. This is a one-year position with the possibility of a second year renewal based upon satisfactory performance

Qualifications:

The ideal postdoctoral scholar will have a doctoral degree in Forestry/Natural Resources, Geography, Anthropology, Ecology, or related disciplines with specific experience working across the boundary of social, ecological, and spatial sciences. They will need a valid driver’s license in order to carry out the necessary fieldwork. They will also need to complete human subjects research certification upon starting the position.

The postdoctoral scholar should be comfortable bridging natural and social sciences as well as academic and practitioner working environments. They should be comfortable working semi-independently to advance the goals of the project. They should have strong analytic and writing skills and work well in collaboration with academics and non-academics

Miscellaneous:

Extensive driving, often in rural areas with limited services, is an integral component of the fieldwork associated with this position.
