Mission of the Forest Industry Analyst

To support Forisk’s research and clients by maintaining and updating key Forisk datasets, analyzing forest industry drivers such as wood demand and capital investments, and creating client and research deliverable products with the Forisk team.

 

Who You’ll Work With

Forisk works as a team of collaborative researchers that cover areas of overlapping expertise to meet the needs of Forisk’s research products and clients. The Analyst will report to the Mill Database Product Manager and will work closely with other members of the team, including the Vice President of Research and Vice President of Client Services. 

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct data collection, analysis, and research for Forisk’s mill and mill announcements databases while ensuring high standards for quality assurance and quality control.
  • Support data systems for the Forisk Research Quarterly (FRQ) and the Wood Fiber Review.
  • Support and conduct capital investment and forest industry research.
  • Provide analytical support for other Forisk projects and clients as needed. This often includes generating charts, tables, and maps to support consulting studies and Forisk products.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis of timber prices, wood fiber prices/markets, wood demand, and forest supplies.
  • Contribute to and co-author on-going, in-house Forisk research related to timber markets, forest products manufacturing, and forest technology.

 

Expected Outcomes

  • Capture weekly updates for mill announcements.
  • Develop an understanding and expertise of capital investments in the forest products industry.
  • Deliver analysis and interim deliverables to project manager(s) on time.
  • Produce quality, thorough work products that address client and internal questions and needs.
  • Support efforts to actively improve products and services, based on feedback collected from clients over time.

Job Details

  • This person will work in-person at Forisk’s office in Athens, Georgia.
  • Forisk’s standard office hours are 8am – 5pm Monday through Friday.
  • This is a full-time salaried position.

Ideal Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • BS degree or higher in forestry/forest products, natural resources, or economics/finance.
  • Direct experience with or exposure to forestry or natural resource operations, research or markets is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, PowerBI, GIS software with Imagery, and SQL Server.
  • Analytic skills (data-oriented), including experience with evaluating data sets and communicating results.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to independently manage timelines/deadlines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with clients and colleagues.
  • Attention to detail in your work and in reviewing the work of others.
  • Curious about the data and key insights.
  • Good listener; able to discern the true issues and objectives.
  • Team-oriented (team player).
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with desire to work in fast-paced environment, with the ability to consistently deliver exceptional results on demanding timelines.
  • Proven track record of success, based on prior work experience, achievements, references and/or research.
