Job Description:

SFLAP Support

• Assist with landowner enrollment in SFLAP and/or the NRCS program, EQIP.

• Help conduct forest inventories for Forest Management Plan development.

• Landowner Consultation using Survey 123.

• Global Positioning System (GPS) field traverses of property boundaries and planned treatment areas.

• Field layout of forestry projects as needed. Includes designation of trees to be removed and delineation of property boundaries, operating areas, and riparian and/or wildlife protections using

flagging and Field Maps (ArcGIS for tablets).

• Supervise the implementation of forestry projects, including contractor coordination and oversight to ensure work meets planned standards.

• Inspection and verification of completed project work in accordance with design plans.

County-Wide Mapping

• Obtain data from county partners to consolidate and publish on ArcGIS Online.

• Use ModelBuilder, ArcGIS Online, and data editing tools to crosswalk GIS data from. diverse sources

• Coordinate with county partners during bi-weekly meetings.

Prescribed Burn Association

• Supporting PBA Coordinator with the following:

o Landowner visitation and consultation to assess the property’s ability to be safely burnt

o Mapping potential treatment areas and property boundaries for burn plan preparation

o TREX (Prescribed Fire Training Exchanges)

o Outreach, volunteer workday coordination, and volunteer support

o Tracking work accomplished and volunteer hours contributed

o Keeping PBA equipment accounted for and in good working order.

• Participating in community prescribed burns.

Federal Partnership Support

• Similar to activities described under SFLAP, however, at a larger scale on Federal land and little to no private landowner collaboration.

Miscellaneous

• Assist in the development of educational outreach materials for the BCRCD website, social media, and other venues.

• Coordinate tree seedling/native plant giveaways.

• Participate in partner meetings and at times be responsible for note taking.

• Assist with other BCRCD projects as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resource science, biology, or a closely related

field.

• Proficiency in ArcGIS products

• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

• Valid California Driver's license, and proof of insurance.

• Ability to write clear, accurate, and effective reports

• Requires continual interface with public and agency partners. Must be a team player, and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and professionally, representing the best interests of the BCRCD.

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and follow through to completion.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Ability to lift 40 pounds, hike on uneven ground outside, bend, squat, stretch, reach overhead, and work outdoors in all terrain and weather conditions.

Desired Qualifications

• Knowledge of, and work experience with, forest management and/or field surveys.

• Experience with natural resource management.

• Experience hiking in the Sierra Nevada or similar high elevation areas.

• Experience and aptitude operating handheld electronic equipment, such as smartphones, GPS units, radios, tablets, etc.

• Ability to communicate in Spanish.

• Experience in wildland or prescribed fire and an active Red Card, or the desire to obtain one

• Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification.

• 4WD/AWD vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed at current IRS rate)

The BCRCD is looking for a dynamic, forest-loving individual to join the team and help care for Butte County's Sierra-Cascade landscapes. The mission of the Butte County Resource Conservation District is to protect, enhance, and support Butte County natural resources and agriculture by working with willing landowners and citizens through education, land management, and on-the-ground projects. The BCRCD is an independent Special District, governed by Division 9 of the State Public Resources Code and led by a five-member Board of Directors and a District Manager.

$21-25 per hour
