Lead Teacher, Kindergarten
2026-2027 School Year

The Language Garden is seeking a Kindergarten teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The Language Garden is an outdoor, nature-based early childhood school in the East Atlanta neighborhood. We are looking for someone who brings warmth and joy to their work with young children and is passionate about nature connections and emergent curriculum. Our kindergarten school day is from 8:30am-3:00pm each day.

Job Description: The kindergarten lead teacher facilitates the daily activities and learning of the children, works closely with co-teachers and communicates regularly with parents. Tasks include thoughtful curriculum design based on children’s emergent interests, on-going reflection and assessment of children and the program and collaboration with co-teachers. Lead teachers attend to the safety and welfare of all the children in the class by creating a daily and weekly rhythm with co-teachers and upholding that rhythm throughout the year. The position requires deep interest in the developing child and a curiosity, if not deep understanding of the local ecosystem. Lead teacher also regularly communicate with parents about their child and about the activities of the class.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Arriving each day, ready to greet the children with a calm, attuned and warm presence.
  • Creating a daily and weekly rhythm with co-teachers, upholding that rhythm throughout the year, understanding and valuing the importance of that consistency for the child’s sense of safety and well-being.
  • Planning and implementing a balanced pedagogy based on the observations and reflections of children’s play, work and/or alongside the natural affordances of the environment
  • Understanding developmentally appropriate levels of freedom and boundaries in group dynamics of children
  • Working closely with co-teachers and the director to maintain a consistent form of conflict response to navigate and build social/emotional skills and regulation, and following up conflicts with repair in consistent and agreed upon forms.
  • Planning and implementing a nature-based morning circle each day that changes and shifts with the seasons.
  • Writing short, weekly communication pieces to families at the end of each week and sharing small pieces of documentation 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Enjoys working with children outdoors and is passionate about being in nature with children.
  • Is comfortable preparing for and adapting to all types of weather, actively keeping the children’s well-being in mind with appropriate dress and gear.
  • Is comfortable building relationships with parents, communicating regularly about child’s processes and development and learning.
  • Is comfortable working collaboratively with co-teachers, maintaining the values and mission of The Language Garden 
  • Has a general and ever-growing understanding of early child development, the importance of play, and nature
