Job Description:

Wildwood Consulting is looking to fill a forest technician position that will provide a real-world, hands-on experience in consulting forestry. This is an entry level position with opportunity for advancement within the company. The selected applicant will gain experience in the field and understand the realities of implementing the decisions made in a landowner’s management plan. This is a fieldwork-heavy position. Work includes treating invasive species, managing wildlife habitat, preparation & conducting of prescribed burns, cruising timber, delineation of timber sale & property boundaries, assisting in data collection for forest management plans, and monitoring logging operations. Wildwood Consulting serves forest landowners within typically a 100-mile radius of Asheville.

Qualifications:

Required:

- Knowledge of native and non-native forest species for this region

- Degree in forestry or closely related field

- Two work references

- Driver’s License

- Ability to lift 40 lbs.

- Ability to work long days in inclement weather and rough terrain

 

Preferred:

- NC, SC, or TN Pesticide Applicators License

- USFS Saw Card

- Ability to diagnose and repair tools, small engines, vehicles

- Certified Burner

- Previous experience in forestry field (timber cruising, management

planning, boundary marking, felling trees, burning)

- Experience towing trailers and operating UTV’s

Salary:
$16/hour
