Location Detail:

Job Description:

Wildwood Consulting, PLLC is a leading consulting forestry company for landowners in the southern Appalachians. With over 70,000 acres under management, we practice what we prescribe. Our clients are provided with an in-house field team to carry out their management plan, whether those objectives are income from timber sales, habitat restoration for hunting and wildlife viewing, or simply sustaining their forestland for future generations. Since 1999, we’ve worked to develop the relationships that help establish sustainable forestry as the precedent among private landowners and land managers for the future of southern Appalachian forests. Our main priority is the goals of the landowner, be they corporate or private. With their objectives in mind, we advise for - and act upon - forest management planning & updating, timber sale marking, marketing, & monitoring, watershed protection, and habitat restoration through invasive species management and/or prescribed burning.

Wildwood Consulting is looking to fill an internship position that will provide a real-world, hands-on experience in consulting forestry. An intern will walk away understanding the realities of the decisions made in a landowner’s management plan. Work will include cruising timber, delineation of timber sale & property boundaries, assisting in both field work & writing of forest management plans, monitoring logging operations, and the field preparation & conducting of prescribed burns. Additional work may include herbicide application. Wildwood Consulting serves forest landowners within typically a 60-mile radius of Asheville.

Qualifications:

Wildwood’s internship position is geared towards individuals that have a degree in forestry (or are currently studying forestry) and looking to pursue a career in forestry. Ideal candidate is able to work long days with physically demanding work on rough terrain in all weather conditions, has basic tree and plant identification for the Southern Appalachian region (including non-natives), and has a general understanding of the processes and tools used in forestry. Previous experience and certifications preferred but not required.
