Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

Under direct supervision, performs work at a training level with a focus on technical and field duties in forest management. Will report to the nearest Forestry location. This position provides on-the-job training and experience in core forestry responsibilities, including fire prevention, preparedness, and suppression activities. Duties include delivering fire prevention messages to media, community groups, schools, and individuals; assisting in the recruitment, training, and equipping of forest fire wardens, patrollers, and firefighters; supporting fire suppression coordination; and participating in forest fire investigations.

Additional responsibilities include conducting spot checks and complaint investigations related to logging operations, assisting in logger training and support in accordance with the Logging Sediment Control Act, and providing technical assistance to landowners. The employee will also help prepare stewardship plans and review reports on forest insect and disease issues. Collaboration with other agencies and staff is expected as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Training: Associate degree in a Forest Technology program recognized by the Society of American Foresters OR a Bachelor's degree in a forestry program accredited by the Society of American Foresters.
 
Special Requirement: Must have a current license as a registered professional forester or a registered forestry technician or in the process of obtaining professional licensure. Must have a valid driver's license.

Must take and pass a physical examination within in the first six months of employment and submit to annual follow-up examinations. Failure to pass the initial examination will result in termination of employment. Failure to pass a subsequent examination may result in reassignment.
