Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills
  • Equipping forest landowners to make informed decisions regarding forest land management. Includes local administration of rural forestry programs, local leadership pertaining to natural resource issues, community and urban forestry, and direct landowner assistance. 
  • Delivery of TFS public affairs programs including; conservation education, networking, and participation in local organizations.  Supervision of assigned staff and management of all local agency service programs.  
  • Oversight of employee activities, personnel evaluations, facilities (Cleveland and Conroe offices), training, grounds, equipment, reporting, budget, etc., including oversight and management of the 1,700 acre William Goodrich Jones State Forest.  
  • Administration and support of local protection and emergency response programs - forest pest mitigation, wildland fire suppression, capacity building, etc. 
  • Will be required to meet minimum physical fitness standard as established by the NWCG and obtain NWCG certification.  May include working long hours in harsh environmental conditions such as smoke, wind, rain, and extreme temperatures. 
  • Attending professional development training and meetings. 
  • Employee must manage/account for assigned credit cards in accordance with state law and agency policies. 

No experience is required, however experience in public speaking, landowner assistance, personnel supervision, etc. are preferred.  SAF Certified Forester, ISA Certified Arborist, TFA Accredited Forester and Non-commercial pesticide applicators license not required but preferred.
