Job Description:

You will serve the Indiana Army National Guard (INARNG) as a Forester, providing specialized, technical knowledge to the INARNG. You will implement the forestry components of the INARNG’s Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (INRMP). Generally, day to day efforts will focus on forest resources within the ~34,250- acre Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center (CAJMTC) and the ~1,000-acre Muscatatuck Urban Training Center.

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

- Plan, develop and administer forestry programs which frequently involve federal, state and local agencies and private individuals/businesses.

- Manage and assist in the collection of forest resource data for state and federal programs.

- Provide specialized guidance and coordination in area of expertise, making recommendations to agency/division heads for program objectives.

- Contract administration as it relates to TSI, timber sales, reforestation, etc.

- Program budget development and implementation.

- Work plan development and implementation/supervision.

- Lead in the training and employee development of lower-level employees.

- Research new and existing programs and literature for use in the program planning.

- Prepares and delivers oral and written reports and presentations interpreting the results of inventory data.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry, Dendrology, or a closely related field.

- Have and maintain a valid driver's license.

- Red card certification; may occur post.

- Thorough knowledge of forestry and forest management.

- Thorough knowledge of program area and program administration, including rules and regulations.

- Specialized knowledge of botany and tree identification.

- Specialized knowledge of forest mensuration and silviculture.

- Specialized knowledge of computer operations including Microsoft Office Suite, ESRI GIS Suite, and Trimble GPS.

- Extensive knowledge of new forestry programs and ability to incorporate this knowledge in program planning.

- Basic knowledge of land surveying.

- Ability to supervise and direct work of others.

- Ability to maintain cooperative work relationships.

- Effective communication, both orally and in writing.

- Ability to work independently as well as with others (i.e., in a multi-discipline team construct).

- Ability to plan and conduct work with little supervision.

Salary:
Traditionally starts at $42,692/year and may be commensurate with education and experience.
