Job Description:

1. You need to be an individual who is very personable and can listen and has the skills to bring a landowner’s goals to life. Easy going fun personalities wanted.

2. You need to be comfortable working outdoors on a daily basis in a variety of weather conditions and in uneven terrain and able to walk several miles daily, carrying the equipment and tools required to complete the job. Oftentimes carrying tools 10-20lbs for extended periods of time.

3. Office work is also required for the position. Mapping (with GIS), communicating with clients and team members, DNR foresters, and other stakeholders in addition to marketing efforts, developing timber sale prospectus’ and other documents will be required.

4. You must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain one in addition to having a suitable vehicle for work in rural, forested off-road environments.

5. Ideally candidates will possess a 2 or 4 year degree in forest management or natural resource related field. Some experience including cruising, timber marking, sale administration, landowner assistance and or any relatable sales or marketing experience would be a great addition.

6. Having an understanding of forest management practices suitable for application in the driftless area of Wisconsin is a plus. A well-rounded understanding of logging operations, forest products and markets is also something we’d like to see.

7. You have to be detail-oriented and be someone that follows systems and processes. In fact, just to prove that you are detail-oriented and can follow procedures.

8. You have to have a desire to learn. Particularly, willing to learn about business and project management. We will give you some (fun) books to read on the subjects.

9. You have to want to teach our clients about forest management, most landowners own land to use it but don’t fully understand how to best manage it. The forests will outlive us all and we need to be good stewards while we’re here and do our part to pass along a well-managed resource to future generations and that starts with teaching landowners what good, sound forest management is and looks like.

Salary:
$40,000-$60,000
