The Forester we need is analytical, a team player, and a forward thinker. This individual should be motivated and be able to work independently. Our Foresters use working and applied knowledge of forestry skills and perform all aspects of forestry-related fieldwork and analysis. They design and implement timber harvesting plan programs to ensure continuous timber production or assist clients in achieving other forest management objectives. They assist in planning, administering, and inspecting other forestry-related activities such as road construction and maintenance, timber marking, silviculture, tract inspections, and boundary establishment. This position will also use various technologies like GIS to assist in managing lands.

Our Forester position is full-time, and primarily responsible for providing forest management services in Western Washington, based out of our Chehalis office. This position will be responsible for all aspects of forest management (planning, permitting, timber harvest, roads, silviculture, client reporting, and budgeting), as well as other tasks assigned by the District and Region Manager.

 

 

Primary Job Functions and Responsibilities:

• Harvest administration and harvest unit layout and permitting in a complex regulatory environment.

• Road construction and maintenance layout, permitting, and contract administration.

• Assist in development and administration of client budgets.

• Use Geographic Information System (GIS) to assist in managing properties.

• Prepare and negotiate contracts with independent contractors.

• Silviculture planning and supervision.

• Work within the objectives of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

• Other tasks as assigned by the District and Region Manager.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or equivalent.

• 5+ years of forestry experience preferred.

• Good written and oral communication skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work within a team environment.

• Ability to work in difficult field conditions.

• Possession of valid Driver’s License and ability to safely operate vehicle.

• Experience with Washington Forest Practice Rules, Oregon Forest Practices Rules, and harvest permitting desired.

• Experience with ArcGIS software desired.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel.

 

 

 

 

 

Salary:
• Expected salary range: $70,000-$95,000. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
