Employer Sierra Pacific Industries Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills Our Forestry Division, Burlington District, has an opening for a qualified District Manager to help oversee the management of the Company’s timberlands to produce a steady, sustainable, low-cost supply of raw materials for our sawmills. This position is based out of our office in Mt. Vernon, Washington, and will manage a complex log plan to produce accurate forecasts to our sawmills in conjunction with mill managers and procurement staff.About the PositionManage District forestry program including all aspects of forest resource management including wildlife, botanical, and hydrological resources as well as timber resourcesEffectively balance issues associated with safe and sustainable forest management, commercial and environmental interests, community relations, and public trust resourcesManage timberlands to produce a steady, sustainable, low cost supply of raw materials for manufacturingPlan and implement programs that ensure the effective use of resources to meet the current and long-term objectives of sustainable forest management, including fuels reduction, and fire suppression efforts in conjunction with State and Federal agenciesPlan, direct, and administer timberland management activities including timber harvest operations, insect and disease control, road construction and maintenance, reforestation/silviculture activities, forest inventory, facility upkeep and recreation.Manage complex log plan to produce accurate forecasts to manufacturing sites in conjunction with production managers and procurement staffEffectively hire, train, supervise, and mentor foresters and other resource specialists as well as coordinate, assign, monitor and review work of team membersRepresent the Company’s interests while working directly with local, state, and federal regulatory agenciesAnnually budget for District expenses and negotiate contracts to best accomplish goals and outcomesMaintain globally recognized forest sustainability certificationParticipate actively in the local community as a representative of the Company QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Forestry, or closely related discipline7 years’ experience in western WA/OR/CA sustainable forest management and forest practice permit/notification preparation as well as reforestation, harvest scheduling, contract negotiations and administrationThorough working knowledge of local, State, and Federal political/regulatory processesDemonstrated skill in leadership, effective communication, motivation, and people managementAbility to build collaborative working relationships within an organizationProven to be a reliable self-starter with strong work ethic and safety conscious Job Field: Forestry Job Type: Full Time Location Detail: Mt. Vernon, WA (Burlington Forestry District) Salary: $95,000 and $150,000 per year (This is the general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to: relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and/or education.)
