Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills
  • Provide technical assistance to landowners in all areas of forest management. 
  • Write multiple resource-based forest management plans for landowners. 
  • Assist with timber sales on state lands. Provide technical assistance to landowners in afforestation and reforestation. 
  • Diagnose insect and disease infestations and make recommendations for control. Assess storm damage to forest lands. 
  • Develop prescribed burning plans and assist with implementation. 
  • Provide assistance with establishing Streamside Management Zones. 
  • Present forestry programs to school groups and local government bodies. 
  • Assist landowners with cost-share programs. 
  • Prepare reports, including measuring and computing acreage. 
  • Assist landowners in control of burns. 
  • May operate heavy equipment. 
  • Assist with fire control as needed.
Required Skills

Qualified candidates will have completed a bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest resources, or closely related major, which includes core forestry coursework from a SAF accredited school, or be within three months of completion of a bachelor’s degree in forestry, forest resources, or closely related major, which includes core forestry coursework from a SAF accredited school, or have obtained an associate degree in forestry, which includes forestry coursework from an SAF accredited school, and be a Georgia Registered Forester. 

Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GIS, and excellent communication and customer service skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of southeastern forestry.
