Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

This position is with the Mississippi Forestry Commission in Area 43, with duties and responsibilities in Marion, Pike, and Walthall counties. This is a First-level professional Forestry position accountable for preparing county fire plans and training county crews in fire suppression, timber management, and safety work. Jobs at this level prepare detailed forest management plans for landowners; mark timber; assist in locating timber markets and supervise prescribed burning activities. Jobs at this level also plan and administer safety programs, inspect and direct maintenance of fire-fighting equipment, and perform fire detection and suppression activities.

Requires a bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years of experience and licensure as a Registered Forester. Hiring agency preferred qualifications: Complete Registered Forester Licensure during first year of employment. Incumbent must pass a preemployment drug test and walking test if applicable. Walking test is performed annually for field level positions.
