Purpose

 

Professional and seasoned staff forester with primary responsibility for the full scope of forestry management activities for an assigned area with expanded responsibilities for assigned projects and initiatives.  Support the District Forester and/or Timberlands Manager with data analysis, project oversight and mentoring interns and staff.  This is a field oriented position requiring leadership to district staff and supervision of various service contractors.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Maintain safe working conditions and facilities for staff.  Model and promote safe work behaviors and company core values

Protect the Roanoke Timberlands from risk of loss due to fire or trespass

Support initiatives for SFI compliance related to water quality, road maintenance and forestry management practices

Coordinate with Roseburg team members and supervise field contractors to accomplish management targets

Coordinate with Roseburg staff to develop the Roanoke Harvest Plan and provide operational recommendations

Responsible for monthly analysis and updating of WINFALL data

Responsibility for the management and improvement of GIS data related to operations

Ensure that herbicide applications are done in full compliance with applicable laws and regulations

Support budget preparation for forestry activities and property maintenance

Represent the Company positively in all interactions with customer mills, agencies and industry cooperators

Maintain good relationships with contractors, vendors, industry cooperators, the public and neighbors at all times

Required Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, with 10+ years of proven forestry field and administrative experience

Physically capable of working in forested environments and adverse terrain in all weather conditions

Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities

Strong analytical and problem solving ability

Highly motivated self-starter with ability to work independently

Thorough knowledge of VA & NC regulations governing forest activities and the appropriate use of BMPs

Highly organized with ability to work in and maintain a highly functional team environment

Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal skills

Excellent proficiency in all aspects of MS Office and other company software

Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement

 

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

North Carolina Registered Forester or reciprocal

State SIC approved Logger Training

Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro

Supervisory experience
