Job Description:

This position will oversee the Watershed Forestry Management Program for the Quabbin and Ware River Watersheds which is a critical program that protects the unfiltered drinking water supply for over 3 million Massachusetts' residents. The successful candidate will provide leadership to the forestry program, educate private forest landowners and the public about sound forest and watershed management, provide input and professional opinions to guide forest management policy and work closely with the Regional Director to present forest management decisions to a wide variety of interested groups and critics. In addition, this position supervises and oversees the activities of 5 Watershed Foresters.

 

Qualifications:

-Knowledge of the terminology and standard abbreviations used in connection with forest resource management and watershed management.

-Knowledge of the principles and techniques of forest resource management, watershed management and silviculture.

-Experience using geographic information systems (i.e. ArcPro).

-Knowledge of the types, uses and operation of equipment and tools used in forest management in New England.

-Ability to read, understand, interpret, apply, and explain technical literature and the laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to land and forest management on drinking supply watersheds in Massachusetts and assigned unit activities.

-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

-Strong organizational skills.

-Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.

-Ability to speak and write clearly and to communicate effectively with staff and the general public.

-Ability to work outdoors all year round under varying climatic conditions.

-Possession of a Massachusetts Forester License
