Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

Examples of Duties: Under general supervision, performs various forest management activities. Duties will vary depending on location of position. 

Timber Sales duties may include:

  • Conduct timber cruising, stand mapping, timber harvest inspections, timber sale area, SMZ line marking, and timber marking
  • Conduct security load ticket reconciliation related to timber sales
  • Locate and mark State Property Boundaries and timber sale boundaries

Other General duties may include:

  • Treat, monitor, and control invasive species
  • Conduct seedling planting and survival surveys
  • Collect GIS data
  • Write multiple resource-based forest management plans for landowners
  • Assist landowners with various cost-share programs through development of management plans and verification of forest management practice completion.
  • Provide technical assistance to landowners in afforestation and reforestation.
  • Diagnose insect and disease infestations and make recommendations for control.
  • Assess storm damage to forest lands.
  • Assist in developing Rx Burn Plans and implementation under the guidance of Certified Rx Burn Managers/foresters.
  • Present forestry programs to school groups and local government bodies.
  • Prepare reports, including measuring and computing acreage.
  • If you obtain your FFT2 Qualification, assist landowners in control burns.
  • Assist with logistics or as needed on wildfires
  • Job duties are subject to change as circumstances dictate

Minimum Qualifications: Enrolled in a college forestry program. Able to lift at least 50 lbs and perform moderate to arduous physical activity in high heat and high humidity environments.

Preferred Qualifications: Have completed some if not most forestry related classes such as Mensuration, Timber Management, Spatial Analysis, Dendrology, Silviculture, Field Methods, & Forest Health.

Position Length: This is for a summer internship from May to August 2026 but the exact start and end dates are flexible based on applicants need.
