Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

The role involves the initiation, preparation, and execution of timber management activities, which are crucial for maintaining healthy forest ecosystems. This includes assisting in the surveying and assessment of forest pest issues, as well as providing support for various programs aimed at suppressing insect and disease outbreaks. Additionally, the position requires a proactive response to reported wildfires, where the individual may take on the responsibilities of Incident Commander or other leadership roles within fire management operations. 

Furthermore, the individual is tasked with coordinating various collateral duties within the Resource Management Team. These responsibilities may encompass conducting inspections of leased campsites, managing rights-of-way and Road Use Agreements, and overseeing ecological services programs. The role also includes involvement in regeneration initiatives, participation in hardwood seed collection efforts, and performing GIS/GPS tasks, all of which contribute to the effective management and conservation of forest resources.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of technical forestry experience, and an associate’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
  • A master’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
