Job Description:

SCS is a full service consulting firm that works with both non-industrial private landowners and industrial sized clients to provide land management and forestry consulting services to meet and exceed landowner and client objectives. We specialize in all forestry and land management services including sale and harvest management, site preparation and reforestation, prescribed fire, habitat and wildlife management, and forest road construction and maintenance throughout the state of Georgia. In addition to terrestrial land management, we also provide various aquatic services in many small and large water impoundments.

 

We are seeking a candidate that has a background in forestry and land management. The candidate must be flexible and adaptable to meet the demands of a variety of different work tasks and field environments. They should be comfortable working alone in a field setting with adverse terrain and weather conditions. They must possess excellent speaking and writing skills and be comfortable meeting and interacting with clients, customers, and contractors. In addition, the candidate should be proficient in using basic Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel and have had exposure to and a willingness to learn additional technical applications including ArcGIS.

Qualifications:

Regarding specific field experience, the candidate should have some degree of experience or exposure to as well as a willingness and desire to learn the following:

 

- Prescribed fire (certified burn manager a plus but not required)

- Timber sale/harvest layout

- Cruising

- Silvicultural activities such as site preparation and planting, herbicide use including a working knowledge of common forest herbicides, pre-commercial thinning, release & herbaceous weed control, etc.

- Boundary line identification/painting

- Road maintenance and construction

- Wildlife & habitat management

- Aquatic herbicides

 

The candidate must be a graduate of a four year SAF accredited forestry and natural resources school. The ideal candidate will possess 3 years+ of relevant work experience, but a more recent graduate or upcoming graduate may be considered with the right level and quality of internships and other relevant work experience.
