Job Description:

Aurora Sustainable Lands (ASL) seeks a Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) analyst to support the company’s forest and carbon Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to geospatial data and systems management for both large-tract forest management and forest carbon projects. Preferably, the candidate will have knowledge of basic silviculture, forest inventory, an awareness of forest carbon markets, and knowledge of nature-based climate solutions. Success will require strong project management and interpersonal skills. The GIS Analyst reports to the manager of GIS/FIS Systems.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Successful candidates will have a degree and/or coursework focused on Forestry, Natural

Resources, or Geography/Geographic Sciences. Knowledge of GIS Software such as ArcGIS and QGIS. Experience with ArcGIS Pro is strongly encouraged.

Knowledgeable of ESRI data storage formats, ESRI Geoprocessing tools, and methods. The ability to automate and streamline processes is strongly encouraged.

Experience with or knowledge of the creation and development of datasets from raster and vector base data collected from a wide variety of sources.

Cartographic knowledge and map-making skills in the interest of creating visually satisfying maps and compelling stories for a variety of audiences.

 

Preferred:

Practical experience with land records and land title concepts.

Experience in timberland investments, timberland operations, or forest management.

Experience with systems for forest data management.

Knowledge of forest carbon policy, carbon protocols, and carbon accounting standards.

Familiarity with programming / scripting languages.

Familiarity with RDMS and SQL queries.
