Description

The Forestry Intern will work in the Atlantic Region (North Carolina or South Carolina) alongside experienced forestry professionals, assisting with various projects that contribute to the stewardship of our natural resources. The intern will be responsible for a range of activities, including timber cruising, stand reconnaissance, inventory, GIS, GPS stand boundaries, contractor supervision, and boundary location and maintenance.
 

Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with forest inventory, data collection, and analysis, including tree measurements, species identification, and health assessments.
  • Participate in reforestation and afforestation projects, including site preparation, planting, and maintenance.
  • Support forest management planning and implementation, including thinning, controlled burns, and invasive species management.
  • Maintenance of spatial, stand attribute, and forest inventory data for the assigned Area.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to ensure sustainable forest management practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports on project progress and outcomes.
  • Participate in fieldwork, which may involve hiking and working in varying weather conditions.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Forestry, Forest Resources, Natural Resources, Forestry Management, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in forestry management, conservation, and sustainability.
  • Basic knowledge of tree species, forest ecosystems, and silviculture practices.
  • Proficiency in GIS software and data analysis is preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong commitment to stewardship and ESG principles
  • Successfully pass pre-employment drug testing and background check.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and ability to travel to various project sites.
