Geographic Area of Responsibility:

East Central Alabama Region (Calhoun, Cleburn, Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Coosa, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Macon, Lee, Russell Counties)

 

Responsibilities: The Alabama Cooperative Extension System is seeking qualified applicants for a Regional Extension Agent (REA) in the Southwest Region of Alabama. This position is a 100% Extension assignment covering eleven counties. The Agent will be housed in the northern portion of this region, in a County Extension office in the region this position serves.

The Forestry, Wildlife, and Natural Resources Regional Extension Agent will serve as the primary Extension educator for forestry, wildlife, and natural resources in the assigned eight-county region. This includes responding to requests for forestry, wildlife, and natural resources related technical information from throughout the region. These requests may come through telephone calls, email, letters, and other personal contacts. The REA will be expected to proactively develop a regional technology transfer program through meetings, workshops, publications, web sites, and other outreach techniques to provide forestry, wildlife and natural resources related information to landowners, professionals, and the public. In addition, the REA will be part of a state-wide Extension Priority Program Team and be expected to participate as a team member to plan, promote, and execute team programs as well as participate in team training opportunities.

The REA will utilize all available/emerging technologies in their educational efforts as well as more traditional methods such as newsletters, news articles, workshops/group meetings, demonstrations and farm/home visits. The REA will participate in writing grants and participate in activities that support applied research/demonstrations beneficial to clientele. Participating in regional and state FWNR associations, and other groups representing FWNR, is important for the REA to develop a reputation as an educational leader with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System. REA will assist team leader and administrators in project outcome and impact evaluations.

Team Description: Regional Extension Agent’s (REA’s), Urban Regional Extension Agent’s (UREA’s), County Extension Coordinators (CEC’s), and Specialists form the core of Extension teams. This REA will participate as a cohesive team member working with local clientele, advisory groups, volunteers, and other interested parties to determine regional needs for program outreach. As a team member, the REA will partner with other REA’s and CEC’s to provide educational leadership in planning, implementing, evaluating, and reporting programs conducted in the region.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Wildlife, and Natural Resources or related field WITH at least two years of relevant work experience is required.

The successful incumbent will be required to obtain a master’s degree within five years after successfully completing a probationary period.

The successful candidate must demonstrate capability in planning and delivering educational programs in Forestry, Wildlife, and Natural Resources. Candidates must demonstrate effective written and interpersonal communication skills, possess the ability to work cooperatively with individuals and groups, and be willing to utilize various forms of outreach for educational program delivery to a diverse clientele. This position requires regular travel to carry out Extension responsibilities, and the successful incumbent must have access to reliable transportation.

Desired Qualifications:

A Master’s degree is preferred and does not require experience to apply.

If selected to interview, candidates will be asked to prepare and give a 30 minute extension presentation on a forestry, wildlife, or natural resource topic of. The presentation should be appropriate for a landowner audience.

Salary:
$43,860.00 - $47,860.00
