Currently, our Martell Forestry District has an opening for a qualified Wildlife Biologist. The successful applicant is expected to work out of our Martell District office located in Martell, California.About the PositionAssist in managing our Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) for spotted owls and our Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) for FisherMonitor large Great gray owl population found in the districtOversee and conduct owl, raptor, mammal, amphibian, carnivore camera surveysConduct biological surveys and supervise the work of contractors and/or seasonal crewReview timber harvest units as needed to ensure they comply with HCP/CCAA/California Forest Practices ActDevelop and maintain effective working relationships by communicating and coordinating with state and federal regulatorsAssist in developing land and wildlife management strategies to best achieve the Company's goalsReview proposed state and federal regulations and assess impact to our businessAnalyze data and prepare reports for various survey effortsAccurately identify fish and wildlife species in the focused geographic areaConduct field work including physical activities such as hiking in rough and steep terrain, conducting surveys at all hours of the day or night, or working in remote locations in all types of weatherOccasional overnight out-of-area projects and workApplications open until filled QualificationsBachelor's degree in wildlife biology or related natural resource field, or at least 5 years directly related working experienceFamiliarity with spotted owls, goshawks, amphibians, and other wildlife species found in Sierra Nevada of CaliforniaProven ability to interpret maps and photographsUnderstanding of federal and state rules and laws regarding timber and wildlifeDemonstrated ability to conduct independent fieldwork in remote settings using various transportation methods such as snowmobiles and ATVsProficient in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint)Exhibit professionalism, sound judgement, and a positive, collaborative attitudeExcellent verbal and written communication skillsCurrent valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a four-wheel drive vehicle and safely navigate steep forest roads Job Field: Wildlife Job Type: Full Time Location Detail: Martell Forestry District - Sutter Creek, CA Salary: $70,000 to $90,000 per year is the general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to: relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and/or education.
