Job Field: Forestry Water and Soil Resources Other Job Type: Full Time Location: Missouri Location Detail: St Louis, Missouri Job Description: DJM Ecological Services is looking for candidates to conduct various timber inventory exercises across the Continental United States. Primary scope will be USFS forest inventory analysis program (FIA) including standard and urban forest inventory plots. Starting dates for successful candidates are flexible. Responsibilities will include performing fixed radius plots to collect information on tree and vegetation species, DBH, height, insects/diseases, aspect + slope, GPS coordinates, and other contract specific requirements. The forestry technician role has a particular emphasis on accuracy and strong production rates as set by DJM. All data collected is verified/graded by a third party or in house to ensure quality. Job specific training will be provided with expenses covered by DJM. In addition to your forestry assignments, you’ll be working with members of the DJM ecological restoration team on tasks including prairie installation, stewardship, prescribed fire, green roof installation, stream bank stabilization, detention basin installation, erosion/sediment control, and watershed management directives. This position is a full-time position with +/-2,080 hrs/yr expected. Qualifications: Qualified applicants will have a 4-year degree in Forestry or related field (with 1-2 years of field experience preferred) or a 2-year degree in a related field with a minimum of 2 years of applicable, verified, field experience. Applicants with no formal education in the field of forestry will be considered based upon related work experience. You must be able to travel within the Lower 48 United States for up to 2 contiguous weeks 6 months of the year. Additionally, you must be able to work in a multitude of environments including rough terrain and extreme temperatures. Hiking for long periods of time may be required. Pre-employment “fit” testing is utilized to verify physical fitness and drug free status. Miscellaneous: N/A Salary: Typical 1st year salary of $40,000-$55,000/year Benefits: Typical 1st year salary of $40,000-$55,000/year with O/T and fringe benefits factored into the total compensation calculation. Full time employment awarded following a 90-day probationary period.
