Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

The University of Georgia, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (http://warnell.uga.edu/) and The Jones Center at Ichauway (https://www.jonesctr.org/) are offering four full-time seasonal positions conducting camera trap surveys of fox squirrels in Georgia. 

This position begins in mid-December 2026 and will end at the end of May 2027. The technicians will assist with a camera trapping study to estimate fox squirrel abundance and habitat use at multiple locations across the state. Activities will include, but are not limited to, setting, and maintaining 200 wildlife camera traps and organizing and processing camera trap data, as well as conducting vegetation surveys at camera locations. Lodging and a field vehicle will be provided.

Breakdown of responsibilities: 50% time performing field research; 50% time performing data-entry or other computer-based work.

Duration: Approx. 7 December 2026 through 31 May 2027

Education and experience: Applicants must have some college-level coursework in ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field. Applicants should be comfortable performing data entry and other computer-based work. A valid class C driver’s license is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to individuals who have experience setting camera traps in the field and processing camera trap images. Strong communication and organization skills are necessary. Experience hiking and operating a 4-wheel drive vehicle is also preferred.

Physical demand: Applicants should be in good physical condition and able to work in hot, humid field conditions where encounters with snakes, biting insects, etc. are possible
