Job Description:

The Fuels Mitigation Forester will provide statewide assistance and guidance on fuels reduction projects; in cooperation with local, state, and federal partners involving interagency cooperation, management planning, grant administration, technical assistance, outreach and education. This position will develop grant proposals, practice and management plans, and assist with project layout, implementation, and administration, and administer federal grants including budgets, accomplishment reporting, and documentation. The Fuels Mitigation Forester will also develop workshops, seminars, and other educational efforts.

Grant:

 

-Works with partners and cooperators to identify and develop competitive fuels reduction projects and prepare grant applications for submittal as Community Wildfire Defense Grants, Community Assistance for Adjacent Lands (CAFA) and Western Wildland Urban Interface grants.

 

Field:

 

-Conducts field reconnaissance and inventory, develops practice and management plans and conducts boundary location, practice layout, and marking. Develops service contracts and oversees contract and project administration. Assists with post project site rehabilitation, including pile burning and seeding. Field work requires travel and work will be performed in all seasons under a range of weather conditions.

 

Outreach and Technical:

 

-Fuels Mitigation Forester will work with private landowners and a broad range of cooperators and contractors, providing technical assistance, training, and support. Develop content and messaging for social media, mailings, and educational materials.   Conduct and assist with field days, trainings, and presentations, which may include public speaking, facilitation, and logistical roles."             "PREFERENCES:

 

-0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Forestry) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Forestry Specialist.

 

-4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Forestry) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Forestry Specialist.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE:

 

-Knowledge of fuels reduction techniques and strategies

-Knowledge of forest management and planning, silvicultural techniques, best management practices and use of technology

-Knowledge of Wildfire suppression concepts

-Knowledge of common forest health issues affecting various tree species

-Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), ArcGIS desktop or ArcGIS Pro

-Knowledge of grant writing and administration

-Skills in presenting to various audiences

-Excellent interpersonal skills

-Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with diverse groups

-Ability to exercise independent judgement and work with minimal supervision
