Deadline: Wed, 10/09/2024 - 12:00pm Employer: Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever Job Field: Wildlife Job Type: Full Time Location: Georgia Location Detail: Albany, GA Job Description: Overview: This position is part of a partnership between the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division, Bobwhite Quail Initiative (BQI) and Quail Forever, Inc. The technician will conduct habitat monitoring work on public and private land, population monitoring (covey counts, breeding bird counts, setting up automated recording units) and may also work on other GADNR private lands program and Quail Forever biologists to assist in conservation delivery. This is a full-time, hourly employee of Quail Forever, Inc. and will receive daily leadership from the GADNR State Quail Coordinator and supervision from the Quail Forever Georgia State Coordinator. This position will be based out of a home office within proximity to Albany, GA but will travel throughout the coastal plain, primarily in southwest GA. Duties: The Habitat Technician will assist with the implementation of BQI goals. Major responsibilities include: Contributing to data collection for scientific field studies and surveys Conducting habitat practice compliance on BQI private land contracts Conduct population and habitat surveys including spring breeding bird surveys, fall covey counts, vegetation surveys, and management of automated recording units (ARU) on private and conservation lands Assisting with procuring and maintenance of supplies and equipment Assisting with data management, collection, and entry from surveys Assisting with coordination of outreach and educational events Work will include seasonally non-typical work hours to complete surveys, including early mornings, afternoons, and nights depending on surveys being conducted Outside of survey seasons work conducted will predominately be computer/office related tasks Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Requires a minimum of a 2 yr. Associates degree or equivalent work experience in a natural resources field, such as, forestry, wildlife biology, fisheries, ecology, or a related field. A basic understanding of environmental, agricultural and/or natural resource science. Knowledge of Southeast wildlife ecology, forest and grassland conservation Knowledge of biology and habitat requirements for bobwhite quail and other wildlife species. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with colleagues and partner agencies; Ability to work independently with little supervision; Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) Good verbal/written communication and organizational skills; Valid driver’s license required. Preferred Training and Experience: Experience with computer applications (Microsoft Office programs, GIS); good communication skills; experience using habitat management tools and equipment. A general qualification guideline for this position would be ability to identified birds by songs, ability to identify common southeast plants and understanding and training in a natural resources field. Proper training will be provided as necessary for the successful candidate.
