The Wildlife Resources Division's Wildlife Conservation Section (WCS) office in Social Circle is excited to announce two 40-hour/week internship positions available for summer 2025. These internships are designed for early-career conservation professionals seeking hands-on experience across various conservation disciplines. The primary responsibilities include assisting in field data collection and data entry for diverse projects focused on Georgia's rare species. The position is based in our Social Circle office, located about 45 minutes from Athens and Atlanta. Housing and carpooling options are available. The role involves statewide travel with overnight stays, with transportation and field lodging provided. Fieldwork can be physically demanding, with workdays occasionally exceeding 10 hours. The start and end dates are flexible, from May 25 to August 15. The position offers a compensation of $14.00 per hour. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about conservation to gain valuable experience and make meaningful contributions to Georgia's wildlife. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary: 1. Assistance to Wildlife Biologists on priority rare species monitoring and sampling 2. Data collection and entry of rare species data pertaining to plant and animals. Secondary: 3. Assistance with habitat restoration activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Some college level coursework in ecology, wildlife biology, or a related field.
  2. Ability to work in hot, humid field conditions where encounters with snakes, biting insects...are possible.
  3. Possession of a valid driver's license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

candidates with at least one of the following skills will be preferred for the position:

  1. Experience with fieldwork, GPS, and off-road 4-wheel drive vehicle operation
  2. Experience with basic wildlife sampling tools and methods, and with plant/animal identification
  3. Experience with software for data entry, and making presentation materials
