FIND Outdoors Georgia Education Intern: 

Description: FIND Outdoors is a one-of-a-kind non-profit, celebrating its 50th year managing US Forest Service and Park Service visitor centers and campgrounds across the eastern US. The recipient of this internship will travel between the four beautiful US Forest Service campgrounds managed in Georgia by FIND Outdoors. They will deliver content that focuses on the Leave No Trace ethic, Woodsy Owl curriculum and other conservation education topics as well as having the freedom to work with FIND Outdoors Education Director to develop their own programs driven by their own interests. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in being a classroom or outdoor based educator, working for the US Forest Service, land and recreation management or any other job that works directly with the public. They will also have the chance to support the Georgia Education Manager during select special programming held at Anna Ruby Falls. 

Location: This internship will be based out of Anna Ruby Falls Visitor Center and will rotate between the 4 US Forest Service campgrounds operated by FIND Outdoors; Morganton Point Campground, Lake Winfield Scott Campground, Lake Rabun Campground and Lake Russell Campground. 

Schedule: 

-May 22 to August 13 

-15 hours a week; Friday, Saturday and Sunday 

-Rotate between the 4 FIND Outdoors campgrounds 

Duties: 

-Deliver provided curriculum to campground and day use area visitors. 

-Lead groups on paved and natural trails as interpreter of trail stories and as a guide to observing the surrounding forest and its dynamics. 

-Collaborate with Georgia Education Manager to establish working schedule for visits to campgrounds. 

-Communicate arrival and departure with campground managers. 

-Care for provided materials, arrive with all needed materials to carry out planned activities. 

-Provides general customer service and information to visitors. 

-Support GA Education Manager with events at Anna Ruby Falls if needed. 

 

 

Qualifications:

-Enthusiastic and comfortable working with the public. 

-Ability to use and adapt lesson plans to provide quality programming and work independently. 

-Have dependable personal vehicle to drive to various campgrounds 

-Knowledge of the flora and fauna of the Southern Appalachians, forest ecology and/or forest management. 

-Willingness to provide support to FIND Outdoors staff, volunteers, hosts, and interns.

Salary:
$1200 stipend
Benefits:

-Credit to fulfill internship requirements 

-Campsite at FIND campground during days working 

-Milage stiped
