Why This Role MattersIn this position, you’ll play a crucial role in advancing geospatial and data technologies that improve situational awareness, optimize emergency response, and drive smarter decision-making. From conducting complex geospatial analyses to streamlining data flows, your expertise will help firefighters and emergency managers protect communities and ecosystems across the state. What You’ll DoDevelop and enhance data-driven solutions that improve wildfire response and resource management.Conduct advanced geospatial analyses to address complex wildfire and natural resource challenges.Automate workflows to maximize efficiency and improve response times.Communicate insights effectively through reports, visualizations, and interactive platforms.Compile, process, and manage complex tabular, vector, and raster data sources in support of analyses and applications.Support division collaboration and program messaging through application of latest technology.Participate in agency’s geospatial working group, professional development, and collaborate with other agency programs in TAMFS.Occasionally support emergency response operations as requested, which may include working extended hours and weekends. Required qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, math, statistics, or related field of study.Minimum of 4 years in geospatial analysis, statistical analysis, or similar, in either an academic or professional setting. An advanced degree may substitute for experience.Strong working knowledge of concepts and processes of data analysis including creating, organizing, manipulating, maintaining, analyzing, and visualizing data.Analytical skills in at least one of the following areas: environmental geospatial modeling, remote sensing, and/or spatial statistics.Ability to work independently and use sound judgment to find solutions to common, complex problems.Ability to manage projects effectively.Ability and desire to keep abreast of new developments and standards in geospatial technology and analysis.Proficient in MS Office, ArcGIS Pro, Python, and remote sensing software.Working knowledge of relational database concepts.Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.Ability to communicate work to both technical and non-technical audiences, with effective oral, written, and visual modes of communication.Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Preferred qualifications:Graduate degree in forestry, natural resources, spatial sciences, math, statistics, or related field of study.Experience with or interest in natural resources, especially with emphasis in forestry, wildfire science, or fire ecology.Experience in one or more of the following areas: wildland fuels mapping, wildfire response field support, land use/land cover change detection, LiDAR.Proven experience with Python and/or R.Working knowledge of Google Earth Engine.Working knowledge of Power Automate and Power BI.Experience with machine learning and advanced statistical techniques.
