Job Description, Responsibilities and Required Qualifications or Skills

Join the vibrant team at American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) as a GIS Analyst, you’ll play a key role in supporting sustainable forestry practices across the Western U.S. In this role, you’ll manage spatial data, create custom maps, and collaborate with forestry specialists to provide data-driven solutions for clients across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. Your work will help shape forestland management strategies that balance environmental stewardship with economic goals. 

We’re looking for someone who thrives in a team setting, has strong problem-solving skills, and is excited to be part of an innovative, fast-paced environment.

This position can function as a hybrid/remote role, however, candidates must reside within commuting distance of any AFM office in the West (WA, OR, ID, MT).

Qualifications
  • Working knowledge and aptitude using ESRI ArcGIS products, specifically ArcGIS Pro, AGOL, Field Maps, Survey 123 and Enterprise architecture.
  • Working knowledge of relational database management systems; SQL, Postgres, Access, etc. and programming languages (Python, R) a plus.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office tools; Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, etc.
  • Understanding or ability to learn regulatory forest practice laws and requirements as they relate to GIS analysis, specifically in WA and OR.
  • Knowledge of forest management operations, forest inventory, growth and yield modeling, harvest scheduling, FPS
  • Excellent time management and organization skills to prioritize multiple projects and adapt to shifting priorities and demands.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills in working with both internal stakeholders and external customers are essential for this position.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and creatively find solutions.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resource management, geography, or geospatial science, or a commensurate level of technical experience in forestry and GIS.
