Job Description:

The Water Conservation Office (WCO) is part of the Public Utilities Department of the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government. The mission of the Water Conservation Office is to promote a water-efficient lifestyle through education, collaboration, and action to sustain our water portfolio and elevate the value of water in Athens-Clarke County (ACC). This is accomplished through K-12 school visits, community outreach efforts, water treatment facility tours, annual events, workshops, and more. Project Overview: The ACC Public Utilities Department and Warnell School of Forestry & Natural Resources (Warnell) at the University of Georgia have formed a partnership to support the ACC Water Conservation outreach program. The goal of this partnership is to further develop a sustainable education outreach program focused on water conservation for students (grades K-12) and adults in Athens-Clarke County. Plan of Work: The graduate student selected for this position will be supervised by the ACC Water Conservation Education Specialist and guided by Dr. Nick Fuhrman, the student’s graduate advisor at Warnell. The graduate assistant is responsible for preparing and presenting educational programs, leading tours of water treatment facilities, assisting with community events (including the Athens Water Festival, Fix-A-Leak Week, Ripple Effect, and others), monitoring and posting on social media, hiring and supervising interns, and other activities that support the WCO mission as assigned. The assistantship includes a tuition waiver for courses required for graduation and a monthly stipend. The assistantship will begin summer or fall of 2024 depending on the availability of the student.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have earned a Bachelor's degree in an education or science-related discipline from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0

• Applicants must be accepted by the University of Georgia Graduate School and enroll in the Master of Natural Resources degree program at Warnell

• Expected two year commitment

• Valid driver’s license

• 18 years or older

• Willing to submit to a background check if selected

Miscellaneous:

Mon-Fri with some evenings and weekends, 20 hours per week, no benefits
