Job Description:

The Forest Biometrics Lab is now accepting applications for an M.S./Ph.D. research assistantship under the supervision of Dr. Sheng-I Yang. The student will work on a research project in forest biometrics. Topics include, but are not limited to, : (1) developing effective statistical models to predict growth and yield for planted and natural forests; (2) identifying key variables that affect forest carbon pools in forests, and (3) providing metrics to quantify wood utilization. The incumbent will be responsible for presenting research results at professional meetings, publishing relevant work in peer-reviewed journals, and assisting in undergraduate education. The incumbent can start in fall 2024 or spring 2025. This assistantship pays monthly stipends and covers health insurance and tuition.

Qualifications:

A B.S. or M.S. degree in forestry, natural resources, ecology, environmental science, statistics, or a related field is required. A strong knowledge of inferential statistics and data analytics and experience in computer programming, statistical analysis or data management are essential. Strong written and oral communication skills in English and self-motivation, perseverance, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively are important. PhD applicants should have published scientific papers in academic journals.
