The Doney Lab at Oregon State University is recruiting 1 PhD student to pursue research related to the human dimensions of wolves and wolf management in Oregon. This research project could explore a variety of dimensions of wolves and wolf management in Oregon, though it must involve collaboration with diverse interest groups and landowners across the state. The student will be partially funded as a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant (see below). The student will be expected to develop and conduct collaborative research on understanding human-wolf interactions and challenges across the state.

Expectations for the Student in their PhD Role:

  • Design and conduct original, empirical research.
  • Work with existing regional collaborators as well as the Human Dimensions lab to design

    and conduct research

  • Teach one E-Campus course per term of GTA in Fish & Wildlife Policy and Governance or

    other related social science course.

  • Co-author ~1 manuscript every two years with Dr. Doney
  • Submit proposals to obtain addition research funding support
  • Follow departmental guidelines to meet graduation requirements in about 4 years
  • Conduct collaborative research across the state, with a primary focus on eastern Oregon

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in human dimensions of wildlife, geography, natural resource management, or related field
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience working with communities and stakeholders/rightsholders
  • Must meet the OSU Graduate School minimum requirements for admission (found

    at: https://gradschool.oregonstate.edu/admissions/academic-requirements).

    Desired Qualification:

• Training in social science research methods (qualitative and/or quantitative)
