Take ownership of our timber harvesting lifecycle as our next Harvest Manager. This pivotal position puts you in charge of the sustainable and efficient removal of timber resources. You'll spearhead everything from initial planning and securing necessary permits to directing operations, including the critical aspects of engineering and road management. From contract administration to on-the-ground operational oversight, you'll be responsible for ensuring all harvesting and roading activities are conducted safely, cost-effectively, and in strict adherence to all applicable regulations and standards.
 

How will you contribute:

 

Planning and Permitting:

  • Design harvest units and roads, prioritizing cost-effectiveness, safety, efficiency, SFI alignment, and environmental standards.
  • Oversee environmental surveys and secure necessary permits (WA FPAs, OR NOAPs, hydraulics, etc.).
  • Manage property line surveys and collaborate on permit acquisition.

 

Operations Management:

  • Manage road construction and maintenance.
  • Negotiate contractor rates, manage log quality, and set production targets.
  • Administer harvest/road contracts, ensuring compliance with policies, safety standards, SFI, and regulations.
  • Oversee harvest contractors for safe, efficient operations.

 

Analysis and Reporting:

  • Develop reports, assist with budgets/forecasts, and perform harvest scheduling.
  • Conduct financial analyses of road, harvest, and haul options.
  • Update GIS and utilize GIS/LMS and RoadEng software for planning, analysis, and reporting.

Ensure SFI Compliance: 

  • Understand your responsibility for environmental stewardship and take careful measures to ensure the long-term sustainability of our forest ecosystems, as well as the wildlife, soils, and water within them.

 

Prioritize Safety: 

  • Maintain a safe work environment for company personnel, contractors, and other stakeholders by adhering to safety protocols, conducting regular safety assessments, and promoting a culture of safety awareness.

 

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Contribute to team success through collaboration and knowledge sharing

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Forest Engineering or related field
  • 3 years of experience with harvest operation or forest engineering
  • Proficient with harvest unit design, road construction principles, financial analysis, GIS applications, WA and OR forest practices rules, and other environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of harvest scheduling, including species, volumes, grades, and costs.
  • Thorough understanding of SFI standards, road maintenance/improvement activities, compliance procedures, deed/legal descriptions, budgeting and forecasting processes, and safety procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and contractors.

 

Physical Requirements:

This position requires extensive outdoor work in varied terrain and weather conditions. Candidates must be able to walk long distances, carry equipment, perform sustained physical exertion, including measurements, tree planting, brush clearing, or fire suppression, maintain stability on uneven surfaces, and operate machinery, power tools, and motor vehicles.

 

This position is designated as safety-sensitive under Washington law. Applicants for this position will be subject to pre-employment drug testing which includes testing for non-psychoactive cannabis metabolites. Employees in this position may also be subject to random drug testing, drug testing after a workplace accident or injury, and drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of impairment while at work.

Salary:
Our pay range for Harvest Manager I is $68,900 to $103,300 & Harvest Manager II is $83,700 to $125,500) based on knowledge and experience. This position is eligible to participate in our annual bonus plan.
