Job Description:

As a Supervisory Fish Biologist OR Supervisory Natural Resource Management Specialist (Official Title will be determined based on the qualifications of the selectee), you will perform the following duties:

 

Provide oversight and policy guidance for the implementation of the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Marine Mammal Protection Act, and the Magnuson-Stevens Act programs to provide counsel to management and outside entities.

Investigate and evaluate the environmental impacts of human activities on marine, estuarine, and anadromous fish habitats and conservation of protected species.

Write concise documents such as briefs, biological opinions, plans and technical correspondence that clearly present scientific and technical information and data to promote understanding and cooperation.

Exercise full supervisory authority including: evaluating work performance; developing performance standards; advising employees; reviewing and approving disciplinary actions; approving expenses, overtime, and employee travel.

 

Qualifications:

To qualify for the 0482 series:

 

A. Degree: major in biological science that included:

 

At least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; and

At least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields. (Excess course work in aquatic subjects may be used to meet this requirement when appropriate.)

OR

 

B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

 

To qualify for the 0401 series:

 

A. DEGREE: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

 

OR

 

B. COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

 

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-3 or GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:

 

Leading or supporting a program aimed at managing and conserving marine resources;

Providing oversight and policy guidance on ESA, NEPA, MMPA and/or MSA programs; and

Preparing scientific and technical documents to promote program efforts.

* Payment of relocation incentives may be authorized for current Federal employees only.

 

* Payment of recruitment incentive may be authorized.

 

Salary:
$100,984 - $166,697 per year
