Job Description:

The Interpretation Exhibit Member will sharpen their skills and share their knowledge in the use of hand and power tools, exhibit fabrication and maintenance, artifact arranging, the application of a range of finishes regarding the preservation of cultural resources at the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park.  The member is expected to assist with preparation, installation, and maintenance of displays relating to the wide range of cultural resources in the park. Additionally, they may also be involved in conducting research and the review of the writing and images that comprise the many interpretive panels throughout the park. The goal of such a review is to provide constructive feedback towards improving the presentation.

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~20 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $280/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.

AmeriCorps Education Award Program: This position may be eligible for a 900-hour AmeriCorps Education Award while serving under the EAP 2022/23 grant year program, valued up to $3247.50 upon successful completion of a complete service term and 900 hours.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, as required by U.S. government contracts

Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.

Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.

A current and valid form of ID (will be required to provide copies of IDs upon hiring)

Willing to undergo and must pass the required three-part criminal history check / background check including fingerprints in order to be issued a government PIV card.

Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

Member may not participate in any prohibited activities as listed in the Member Service Agreement or as defined by AmeriCorps.

Start Date: August 2023 (flexible for the right candidate)

Estimated End Date: May 2024 (or 48 weeks from start date)

Preferred:

Competitive applicants must have a degree or demonstrated technical competency or be pursuing a degree or technical certification in a relevant field, i.e., course work in museum studies, history, experience in carpentry, plastics fabrication, exhibit installation, graphic design, large format color printing, or other related disciplines appropriate to the position.  A combination of relevant education and appropriate experience is also acceptable.

Knowledge and skills in the principles of museum exhibit preparation and preservation.

Basic computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, data management, etc.)

Excellent organizational, research, and writing skills.

Proficient in English.

Ability and willingness to work independently as well as part of a team.

Deep interest in American maritime history.

Salary:
