Job Description:

Eastern Forest Consultants LLC (EFC), a North Carolina-based company, is seeking applicants for a summer internship at their Christiansburg, Virginia location. This is a labor-intensive field position, and the successful applicant should expect to spend >90% of their time working outdoors. The intern will be introduced to a variety of forest consulting tasks (ex: timber sale administration, timber cruising, etc.) as opportunities arise, but the majority of the internship involves assisting EFC staff with invasive species control and other types of herbicide applications. EFC will try to accommodate other forestry-related interests of the successful applicant, when possible. The internship will include a heavy amount of out-of-town travel for which intern will be compensated (i.e. lodging, transportation, and meals provided by EFC).

 

Qualifications:

Preferred applicants are those able to identify eastern tree species with an expected graduation date no sooner than December 2023. Previous work experience in the forestry profession is also preferred but not required or expected. The successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to work independently on rough terrain and willing to apply herbicide.

-Invasive Species Control on VA Department of Conservation and Recreation Natural Area Preserves

-Red Spruce Release for the U.S. Forest Service – Monongahela N.F. in West Virginia

-Kudzu Control for Private Forest Landowners in Virginia and North Carolina
