Job Description:

The invasive species technician will work in the field to further the Alliance’s and GCPEP’s strategic goals by assisting the Invasive Species Coordinator. Duties will include assisting with the implementation of invasive species removal, mapping, coordinating with state and federal programs, herbicide application and documentation, equipment maintenance, inventory of supplies, and any other duties assigned. These duties take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours, typically 7:00 am to 3:00 p.m. Hours and days may vary due to weather conditions and job site location. Applicants are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) during herbicide treatments. Minimum required PPE is as follows: long-sleeve shirt, long pants, socks, rubber boots, eye protection, and rubber gloves. Rubber boots, rubber gloves, and eye protection will be provided. The technician will be expected to assist the coordinator with all duties listed above and be able to work alone if necessary.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be a college student with a major or minor in a science-related field or one who has worked in a related field or a graduate with a BA/BS related to this field. It is also required that the applicant be able to work in harsh outdoor conditions and habitats. Applicants must be 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license and clear background check for military base access. Preferably, applicants understand invasive species and those that are high priority for Northwest Florida and have a basic understanding of herbicide application. An herbicide application certificate is not required. The position is open beginning in May for 6 months for 34.75 hours a week. TLA is willing to work with student class schedules.

Miscellaneous:

Position: The Longleaf Alliance (TLA) is seeking a part time technician to assist the Gulf Coastal Plain Ecosystem Partnership (GCPEP) Invasive Species Coordinator. The invasive species coordinator works with private, state, and federal landowners. The technician position was developed to support the coordinator on herbicide applications and documentation. Priority work by the invasive species technician is mapping, identifying, and treating for invasive species with a focus on cogongrass, mimosa, Chinese tallow, Japanese climbing fern, and kudzu. The position is part-time and dependent on successful program funding and grants.

Salary:
$16.00/hour
