This is an execution-focused role with the preferred location to be in the Hattiesburg, MS or Brookhaven, MS office. For current Weyerhaeuser employees, there is flexibility for the position to be based out of the Hammond, LA office if the successful candidate currently resides in the general Hammond, LA area. Some overnight travel may be required for off-site meetings and field data verification (less than 10%). This role works within the MSLA Planning and Inventory Team, which is responsible for harvest planning, forest inventory, forest data management, and GIS and mapping. The successful candidate will be a key member of this team and assist in managing the forest inventory program, oversee the data quality in the Forest Management System (FMS) and provide mapping services to the MSLA Region. The ideal candidate will be familiar with forest measurement techniques, harvesting and silvicultural (Early and Mid-rotation) practices, knowledge and understanding of cruising/sampling, GIS (ArcMap preferred), GPS, and mobile technologies. Key Functions: Function as an interface with the operational foresters for inventory completeness and accuracy Ensure the overall quality and integrity of forest inventory data in the Forest Management System (FMS) Train and mentor foresters in the use of FMS Update FMS inventory for acquisitions, divestitures and post-harvest activities Ensure the quality and integrity of spatial accuracy in FMS FMS spatial alignment, maintenance, and improvement Quality assurance/quality checks for spatial accuracy and other data control issues Provide GIS data services for operations Lead through creating content and initiating meetings Solve problems by utilizing spatial technology Assist in annual harvest planning preparation and processes Qualifications: Bachelors Degree (or higher) in Forestry, GIS or related field OR combination of education and experience At least 2 years of forest inventory experience is preferred Knowledge and understanding of forest inventory systems Understanding of intensive plantation silviculture practices Strong mensuration, biometrics and statistical knowledge and skills Strong computer skills with ability to use Office 365 Products Good verbal and written communication skills ArcGIS, WebGIS and database management skills preferred Ability to prioritize and multitask Ability and willingness to work in a diverse team environment Miscellaneous: About Timberlands We believe trees are a remarkable resource that can and should be managed responsibly to make a range of products that meet human needs, while also providing recreation, wildlife habitat, and other important ecosystem benefits.
